Building on Trust: Our Commitment to Transparency and Ethics

When you build a community organization from the ground up, you must establish absolute public trust. The Griffin Arts Council operates with a commitment to strict financial accountability, ethical governance, and complete operational transparency.

We believe that our community, our donors, and our local partners deserve to know exactly how we operate. To guarantee this standard, our Board of Directors formally adopted a comprehensive suite of governance and compliance policies during our formation. These policies ensure that every dollar raised and every program executed remains aligned with our organizational mission.

Core Policies Guiding Our Work

  • Conflict of Interest Policy: We require all directors and officers to disclose any financial or business relationships annually. Any board member with a personal or professional stake in a transaction must recuse themselves from discussions and voting. This protects our organizational integrity and prevents private benefit.
  • Financial and Internal Control Policy: We enforce strict segregation of financial duties. Dual authorization is mandatory for electronic transfers and checks exceeding five hundred dollars. Monthly bank reconciliations and quarterly independent reviews ensure that our funds remain secure and accounted for.
  • Whistleblower Policy: We protect all volunteers, contractors, and board members who report suspected violations of financial standards, laws, or organizational policies in good faith. We maintain clear reporting channels directly to independent officers to resolve concerns swiftly.
  • Document Retention and Destruction Policy: We adhere to strict retention schedules mandated by federal and state guidelines. Financial records, tax filings, and corporate minutes are securely stored in our cloud repository and preserved for mandated timeframes to guarantee accountability.
